French Canadian Chop Suey
Even though this recipe may look simple, it has an immense history in my French-Canadian culture. It has been made by great grandparents. It was considered a low cost and filling meal that would fill up everyone. In most recent years, I have replaced the pasta with gluten-free pasta and also used tofu instead of hamburger. Toutiere(French Canadian Meat Pie)
This recipe is a strong contender in the French Canadian culture. It is a meat pie that we call Toutiere. It is a meat pie that is made with a variety of spices. I grew up eating this every Christmas. It was a tradition for every patriarch to make one see who had the best one while keeping it a secret of the different ingredients. It was never a holiday without this baking in the oven. This particular recipe is one that my mother, my grandmothers, and my aunts, as well as their mothers, made.
French Canadian Shepard’s Pie
Coming from a French-Canadian family in New England, this recipe goes back for close to 100 years. This started off as something that was inexpensive yet would hold you over. The recipe stuck through the years and is something I grew up on as a child. Personally, I gave up meat and dairy so there are many substitutions that can be made. All of the versions are a great meal on a cold day.
