Guess What’s Growing in Arizona On an Old Football Field
I’m beginning to think we can grow anything anywhere in Arizona. Why? It’s innovative thinkers like Chaz Shelton of Merchant’s Garden in Tucson.
Toutiere(French Canadian Meat Pie)
This recipe is a strong contender in the French Canadian culture. It is a meat pie that we call Toutiere. It is a meat pie that is made with a variety of spices. I grew up eating this every Christmas. It was a tradition for every patriarch to make one see who had the best one while keeping it a secret of the different ingredients. It was never a holiday without this baking in the oven. This particular recipe is one that my mother, my grandmothers, and my aunts, as well as their mothers, made.
March is the Month for Food
March is surely the month for food get really because this month is a food lovers paradise when it comes to national food days! There is a wonderful treat for almost every day.
French Canadian Shepard’s Pie
Coming from a French-Canadian family in New England, this recipe goes back for close to 100 years. This started off as something that was inexpensive yet would hold you over. The recipe stuck through the years and is something I grew up on as a child. Personally, I gave up meat and dairy so there are many substitutions that can be made. All of the versions are a great meal on a cold day.
Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread
This is a go-to treat when I want something sweet. I eat small amounts and heat it up with some earth balance. It is good with tea at night or just when you are craving something sweet. You can swap out the eggs with applesauce and add in nuts. This is also something great to make around the holidays as well.
