While we’ve heard that too much sugar isn’t good for you in general, there’s more evidence that sugar and other foods may impact our immune systems.
Consumption of too much added sugar can result in high blood glucose or altered gut microbiome, which can impair immune response, while high salt consumption can promote inflammation and elevate the risk for developing autoimmune diseases. Other foods that may have negative effects that can harm the immune system include fried foods, fast food, highly refined carbohydrates, and artificially sweetened foods and drinks.
