Corn or flour tortillas? That’s a common question now at my favorite Mexican food restaurants. Years ago, we never received such a question. But the choice is a good one for several reasons including getting to wrap for favorite pork taco in our preferred tortilla.
Don’t we just love choices? But there is more to these tortilla choices, according to our nutrition experts.
From our Experts
- Corn tortillas have magnesium, phosphorous and fiber content, which can help with muscle recovery, breaking down carbohydrates and fats and metabolism.
- Flour tortillas are high in protein and calcium, which can help with achieving satiety and maintaining optimal bone health, says registered dietitian Melissa Rifkin.
Choosing between the two depends on the eating plan a person is following, their health conditions and taste preferences, Rifkin says.
Personally, it’s just fun to have such a choice. Lately, I’ve been leaning toward corn tortillas. Yum. Who’s hungry?
