Try These Unique Winter Fruits that Grow in Arizona!

Red and green grapes, apples, orange slices, pineapple chunks, melon chunks, and assorted berries. Those are all of the fruits that you might find on a typical fruit tray. While all of those fruits are healthy and delicious, there are so many other unique fruit options available.

Not only are these unique fruits even more showy for placing on a fruit tray, but they have a wide variety of vitamins and minerals and a whole different flavor than the usual array of fruits! Read on for 7 unique fruits that are in season during these winter months!

1. Kiwi – Exceptionally high in vitamin C, and also a good source of vitamins K and E, and potassium.

  1. Pomegranates – Chock full of antioxidants, and a good source of vitamin C, fiber, and folate.
  2. Kumquats – High in vitamin C, fiber, and essential oils.
  3. Pomelos – High in vitamin C.
  4. Starfruit – A good source of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants.
  5. Guava – Rich in vitamins A, E, and C, fiber, and antioxidants, and potassium.
  6. Persimmons – High in vitamins A and C, as well as fiber.

 

A little fun fact, all of these fruits can be grown in Arizona! Pomegranates and citrus such as pomelos and kumquats grow very well in our climate. Kiwi, guava, persimmons, and starfruit can grow here as well but require much more special care and attention. You can find all of them at a local grocery store or farmers’ market!

Next time you’re making a fruit tray, consider adding a few different fruits! They’ll add a whole other level of flavor, looks, and nutrition!
