I remember mine. I loved the county fair. The Pinal County Fair in Arizona where I entered my 4-H pig each year for show.
I remember entering brownies in the cooking category and also sewing and other categories.
In my book, Fresh Air, I suggest that you “go to the county fair.” It’s the best place to get a “feel” for country life (especially if you stay away from the midway).
The latest generation is at it too. My nieces, Annie and Bethany Murphree, are now big fans of the county fair.
And this week, Maricopa County Fair opens on Wednesday. Arizona Farm Bureau President Kevin Rogers’ daughter, Morgan, will show her 4-H pig. His other two kids, Taylor and Kevin Gary, will be showing 4-H pig too.
Pima County Fair in southern Arizona is April 14th through the 24th. Pima County Fair is celebrating 100 years of fair fun.
If you’re an Arizona resident, our county fairs are being held throughout the year. In the northern part of the state they’re typically in the fall.
